This was the first plant to fly across the Pacific. In October of 1934, Charles Kingsford Smith and P.G.Taylor flew from Australia to California in this Lockheed Altair D8. The plane and the two pilots were later lost on the return flight to Australia from England.
The model is scratch built from sheet styrene molded over wooden patterns. Much more can be learned about the Lady Southern Cross on the Australian website: www.adastron.com Look in the Lockheed file. There is even wonderful film of the plane. Many thanks to my friend Tim Kalina for filling in numerous details of this historic plane which he has studied for many years.
